J. Arthur Mozley
Mr. Mozley’s practices largely as an aviation lawyer, and he has handled aviation cases involving airline disasters, commuter crashes, and various forms of general aviation accidents. He has served as lead defense counsel for UTC Pratt & Whitney in the Southern Airways Flight 242 Air Disaster on April 4, 1977, New Hope, Georgia (DC-9); lead defense counsel for ASA in the April 5, 1991 air disaster crash of ASA Flight2311 at Brunswick, Georgia (EMB-120); lead defense counsel for ASA in the August 21, 1995 air disaster crash of ASA Flight 7529 near Carrollton, Georgia (EMB-120); lead defense counsel for Air Midwest/Mesa Air in the January 8, 2003 air disaster crash of Air Midwest Flight 5481 at Charlotte, North Carolina (Beech 1900D); and lead defense counsel for the Lexington-Kentucky Blue Grass Airport with respect to the August 27, 2006 air disaster crash of Comair Flight 5191 at Lexington, Kentucky (CRJ-100). He also handles aviation insurance coverage matters, product liability litigation and general civil litigation.
In addition to being an aviation lawyer, Mr. Mozley has argued appellate cases in the Georgia Court of Appeals, Georgia Supreme Court, and First, Third, Fifth, Eighth, and Eleventh Circuit Courts of Appeals, and in the United States Supreme Court. Some of his aviation appellate cases are reported at 503 F.2d 239, 519 F.2d 1178, 97 S.Ct. 2490, 188 S.E.2d 154, 794 F. Supp. 393, and 290 F. Supp. 2d 1379.
Mr. Mozley has been a guest instructor and lecturer at The Atlanta College of Trial Advocacy, National Institute of Trial Advocacy, Georgia Seminars on Aviation Law, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Symposium on Aviation Law and Insurance, and the SMU Air Law Symposium. He has been selected for inclusion in the 2010 and 2011 “Georgia Super Lawyers” by Atlanta Magazine. J. Arthur Mozley was born in Cordele, Georgia on November 27, 1941, was admitted to the State Bar of Georgia in 1965, and is one of the founding members of the firm established in 1977.
